Overview
Club volleyball provides aspiring athletes with a competitive and structured environment to develop their skills beyond school or recreational leagues. Participating in club volleyball requires a significant time and financial commitment from both players and their families. While we make every effort to be fair in our tryout process, assessments are inherently subjective; coaches, both within and across clubs, may have varying opinions regarding the potential of individual athletes. At Core Performance Volleyball Academy, our coaches recognize this reality and typically consult with peers when finalizing roster selections. While volleyball expertise and skill proficiency are primary considerations for team placement, additional factors such as athleticism, potential, and player intangibles will affect placement.

Get to Know our Head Coach for 13-1's

How long have you been coaching volleyball?
Around eight years.
Why do you coach?
I coach volleyball because it was my daughter's chosen sport, but I have always felt called to be a coach. Volleyball became my vehicle. I believe in the parallels between sports at a high level and success in life (whatever success may mean to you).
What is important to you?
Culture. Commitment. Character; Rising above one's circumstances to achieve desired results. I believe overcoming adversity and looking internally to find courage and the will to "push through" is a learned skill.
What do you enjoy most about returning to club?
I miss the long days and the battle. I miss the preparation (I study every available match of our competition). It's terrible to say, but I look forward to and love beating teams knowing their parents are paying upwards of $500 per month.
What do you expect from your first season?
Expectations are tricky. I expect to work hard. I expect to compete. My focus is never on winning, but rather on shaping winners. I believe winning is a by-product of actions and responding as winners do. I'm excited for a great season.
What is a proud coaching moment?
This one is tough. I do not have a pedigree or long history in the sport as many coaches do. I did not come from a large club. I've spent 1,000's of hours watching videos and attending clinics. I've paid for countless lunches and even hired a coach of my own. I want to say all the notes and emails from past players about the impact I had on them, and how their new teams just aren't the same. My proudest moment was when players from other teams started noticing what we had. In fact, the picture above is of my daughter and me at one of her final matches as my player. The photographer caught a conversation of me asking if she knew an easily 6'2" player from another club. I thought it was odd she had just stopped me between sets to introduce herself. She knew me by name.
What is your coaching approach?
I can't imagine being a teenager today. It was tough when I was growing up. Having a teen daughter in competitive sports, there are a few areas I value more than other coaching systems, a bonded team to do life together.
Active Listening: Effective coaching starts with listening attentively to your concerns, aspirations, and challenges. I prioritize understanding my teams unique situation before offering guidance or strategies.
Customized Strategies: I don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, I tailor coaching strategies to team and player specific needs, goals, and learning style, ensuring that our sessions are highly relevant and impactful.
Empowerment and Accountability: I strive to empower my teams to take ownership of their growth journey while providing the accountability and support needed to stay focused and motivated.
Empathy and Support: Coaching isn't just about advice; it's about understanding yours players challenges and providing empathetic support along the way. I prioritize building a trusting relationship where my team feels heard and supported.
Why only 13U?
As much as we would love to add more teams, we just don't have the capacity. I will coach our competitive team and assist our developmental.
Ultimately, the decision depends on finding a coach whose approach resonates with you and who can guide you effectively towards your player's goals. If my approach aligns with what you're looking for, I'd be honored to discuss how we can work together to achieve your objectives. See you tomorrow!
